“I didn’t have the honour of serving my country, as many of our service men and women have. My first experience with veterans was working with a group of ex-Royal Signals men and women at a major bank in London nearly thirty years ago. I quickly learned that apart from being legendary drinkers (it was the nineties) and great friends, they made excellent employees. Super reliable, with a can-do attitude.
In the 30 years that followed, I have sought out veterans as a reliable source of quality staff whenever possible.
I am personally grateful for the work that the armed forces do to protect the UK and its friendly nations. Many of them pay a high price in terms of mental and physical injury, and I believe the least we can do is give them a decent career once they leave.
In the end, it isn’t altruism so much as pragmatism. We get amazing staff. They get an amazing new career.”
